Our Mission
Quickies is a forum for student-led, student-taught workshops at the Rhode Island School of Design and Brown University. These workshops are interdisciplinary and provide a framework for students to think critically about their education. Students determine the course offerings and structure, which gives them an opportunity to engage with current and emerging issues in their own work, their disciplines, and society. Our goal is to advance knowledge in art and design and contribute to the intellectual commons by freely and openly sharing information. The collaboration between RISD and Brown provides each university with a more diverse educational palette. Through this process, we hope to discover new modes of learning and spark a reevaluation of contemporary education.
Our Vision
Two years ago, RISD quickies exploded into existence. Since then we’ve hosted almost 100 workshops taught by students, ranging from web design to physical performance techniques to bookbinding. This year were going to continue the awesomeness, and expand to incorporate some new ideas. We want to build our team around two new initiatives:
Videography
Can’t make it to a class? Want to recap that one moment during a workshop? Adding video to our site will make our content even more open and accessible, to students and the broader community. Not to mention, it’s a great way to publicize RISD, our students, and what we do.
Quickies Community Week
Quickies is all about exchange. Exchange of ideas, knowledge and skills; and connecting with people through that exchange. For one super fantastic week this year, we will broaden that exchange by opening our doors to the community, providing them the opportunity to see who we are and what we do as RISD students. We’ll also host a wide array of workshops taught by people outside of RISD, to expand our range of topics and ideas.
